Nate Monson
 graduated from Clarke College (Dubuque, IA) in 2007 with a BA in History. His previous experience includes work with individuals with mental and physical disabilities, diversity programs, and political campaigns.  
 
Currently, Nate is the Executive Director of Iowa Safe Schools, which is a coalition of educators, civil rights and LGBT advocates, in partnership with the Iowa Civil Rights Commission. In this role, Nate is working to create safer schools and communities for LGBT youth through public awareness, education, and policy. 

Since joining Iowa Safe Schools in May 2007, Nate developed the only proven statewide training model for teachers, principals, parents, and youth-serving professionals on LGBT students.  He sp
eaks to a
pproximately 2,500 individuals per year and presents at national, regional, and statewide conferences. Nate is known as a statewide leader on bullying and LGBT youth development.   In addition to his role at Iowa Safe Schools, Nate serves on a number of community and state coalition boards including Youth and Shelter Services Diversity Committee, Iowa Department of Education Learning Supports Advisory Team, HOAM, Polk County Anti-Bullying Committee, the GLBT Health Initiative, and the Iowa Department of Human Rights Board.
